Where can I find examples and help?
You may find these resources helpful when writing a guide:
- The book Apple Guide Complete contains information on
designing and planning your guide. There's also
technical information that may be useful to the programmers of the application you're documenting. The book contains the
source code for a sample guide.
- An early overview and discussion of Apple Guide, by John Powers, was printed in issue 18 of develop, and can be downloaded in Adobe Acrobat format.
- The
source code (826k) for version 1.3 of
Macintosh Guide, which documents the general features of the Macintosh OS, is available. Macintosh Guide is much larger than the typical application guide because of its scope, but its sequences provide Apple-standard examples of how to write task-based, step-by-step help.
- Download "Creating a Localizable Guide File" to learn how to write and structure your guide so it will be easy to localize to other countries and languages.
